The role of the modelmaker in design.

In this post I was given the questions whey are their different kinds of models that might be used in a particular industry?

For this question I looked to the Architectural Modelmaking book by Nick, Dunn.

I looked at descriptive models from p171 to p181 and explorative models from p196 to p207.

Architectural models

Descriptive models

Descriptive models are associated with the types of models that are used to portray the realism of reality In-depth, visually communicating how a final Piece of architecture in its Immediate surroundings will look in real life and possibly conveying of the interior architecture as well as the exterior. This is relevant to the presentation model which often serves as a Conclusive model to the design development stage, allowing all the different elements of design to come together for the architect to gain a full visual understanding of the completed design and maybe if needs be, how he can progress on to the next stage. However, a presentation model is more likely to be showcased to the public within or near by the actual finished piece of architecture.

Explorative models

An explorative model is one which is consistently used in the early stages of design development, whether it be a final piece within itself or a mockup of an idea. The primary use of an explorative model Is to take a theoretical idea and put it into practice by making, testing and assessing the functionalities or aesthetic's in Its physical state. These explorative models can be made to speculate just one specific component of a design if needs be, or to explore whole different realities of the form a piece of architecture may live in, which congregates in the early methods of design. Mimicking the creative spurs and impulses a sculptures Maquette may convey in its seeking of creativeness.
